So my dad was diagnosed in March but we're just now getting serious about the legal side of things and I'm realizing I have no idea if there's a deadline on this stuff. I know meso cases can take forever to settle but is there a time limit on when you can actually file?
I'm trying to figure out if we need to rush into anything or if we have some breathing room to get his medical stuff sorted first before dealing with lawyers. He's on palliative care now so I'm managing a lot of his appointments and honestly the last thing I want to do is miss some arbitrary deadline because nobody explained the timeline.
Does it matter that he was exposed like 40 years ago but just got diagnosed now? Or does the clock start from diagnosis? I assume different states have different rules but we're in Illinois if that helps.
Has anyone dealt with this yet or talked to a lawyer about the actual time pressure here?
