So my dad was just diagnosed in March and of course my brain immediately went to the legal side of things because that's what happens when you work in healthcare and have to manage everything. I started looking into filing a claim and realized I have no idea if there's a deadline on this or if we have time to figure it out while he's dealing with treatment.
I know the exposure happened years ago when he worked construction in the 80s, but the diagnosis is recent. Does the clock start from when he was exposed or from when he got diagnosed? Because those are like 40 years apart and I need to know if we're looking at an urgent timeline or if we can actually breathe for a minute here.
I'm asking partly because I want to focus on getting him the best treatment right now and not be scrambling with legal stuff at the same time, but also because I don't want to miss any window if there is one. He's on palliative care as of October so time feels... different now, you know?
Anyone been through this already? What was your experience with the timeline and how fast did you have to move?
