Asbestos Corporation Limited claims deadline: September 10, 2026
A court has set September 10, 2026 as the deadline to file an asbestos claim against Asbestos Corporation Limited, a Québec company that mined chrysotile asbestos at Thetford Mines until 1986 and sold it into American industry for decades.
According to the official notice, anyone who does not file by that date will not be able to pursue compensation from ACL, or from General Dynamics Corporation or its affiliates and successors. The bar is permanent.

Who the deadline applies to
The deadline is written for people who are already ill, and for the families of people who have died. Specifically, the official notice describes:
- People diagnosed with mesothelioma, asbestos-related lung cancer or another asbestos disease, whose exposure involved asbestos mined by ACL.
- The heirs or representatives of someone who died of such a disease.
If you have a diagnosis and you or a family member worked anywhere raw chrysotile fibre was handled, this deadline is worth checking before September 10 — even if you have never heard the name Asbestos Corporation Limited. Most people who were exposed to a mining company's fibre never knew whose it was.
ACL sold raw chrysotile fibre rather than finished products, so the exposure it caused generally happened where that fibre was handled and processed — insulation and textile manufacturing, gasket and friction-product plants, cement products, and the industrial sites that received it. Family members exposed to fibres brought home on work clothing are a recognised route as well.
The proceeding is Canadian, but United States claimants are included. ACL filed under Canada's Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act in the Superior Court of Québec on May 6, 2025, and simultaneously filed a chapter 15 case in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. ACL has been a defendant in asbestos personal injury litigation in fourteen US states, among them New York, California, Illinois, Delaware and South Carolina.
If you were exposed but have not been diagnosed
The notice does not address this, and we are not going to guess. Both the notice and the claims portal describe the requirement for people who have been diagnosed. Asbestos diseases commonly take twenty to forty years to appear, so this is a real question — but only the administrator can answer it. Call 877-788-0179 before September 10 rather than assuming either way.
ACL is one company. A diagnosis usually means more than one claim.
Asbestos Corporation Limited mined the fibre. It did not make the insulation, the gaskets, the cement board or the joint compound that fibre ended up in. A person who worked in a plant where ACL chrysotile was processed was, in almost every case, working around products made by many different manufacturers at the same time.
That matters because this deadline covers one defendant. There are around sixty active asbestos bankruptcy trusts in the United States, each with its own filing procedures and its own deadlines, and separate legal claims may exist against companies that never went bankrupt at all. Meeting the September 10 date protects a claim against ACL and General Dynamics. It does nothing about any of the others.

Those are separate questions with separate clocks, and the state deadline that governs a lawsuit is usually much shorter and is measured from your diagnosis, not from your exposure.
